"I’ve always been a connector of sorts..."

🤝

The mission is to connect creatives to people/places where they can use their gifts to inspire others. Over the years I’ve carried that out in different ways. Whether it was helping put on events, getting an artist a gig or two, connecting like-minded individuals who would eventually collaborate on projects, help plan and talk through strategies for new ideas, etc.

I’ve always been a connector of sorts. It’s what I’ve watched my family do in ministry and it’s what I’ve done in my professional career in Human Resources. I’ve always tried to see the best in others. I encourage them and nudge them to walk on the path of their purpose by helping them recognize their God given gifts.

I have learned a lot about myself and others. I have gained and lost friends. I have seen success and I have seen failure.

But one thing I haven’t done is give up on the idea that when I believe in someone, I want to see them win and for God to bless them.

🙏🏼🙌🏼👍🏼

And that brings me to an exciting, first of many, collaboration with my friend and Artist Creative, Kelly Cruz of @kingandfolkco.

While she wears many hats like pastor’s kid, sister, aunt, military wife, mother of 3; this soft-spoken, Master’s Degree holding young woman is also a talented UNYC artist! I’m honored and grateful that she has allowed me to work on this with her.

Give her a follow and check out her amazing work! We are excited to get this piece out to you all!

Struggling with staying focused sometimes…

I swear sometimes I have A.D.D.

🙃

My brain rattles around with so many thoughts and ideas and questions that I can’t focus. So sometimes I will choose the lazy way out to avoid having to make a decision because there’s no actual deadline for the things going on in my head.

🤯

I have my moments though where I get a burst of inspiration and creativity and then I get triggered with a memory or something happens that changes the course of a moment and throws me off.

😠

I try to write things out and put them in boxes to help me organize all the crap in my head and sometimes it helps and other times I forgot where I wrote those things down.

🤪

I have goals, dreams and ideas that I would like to see come to life and I know I have to put in the work. But I also have to accept the fact that there are things out of my control and so I need to only worry about what I can control.

😬

I’m still trying to figure out how to be the best me and let go of the negative thoughts, words or experiences that will try to hinder me from being great.

😤

Anyways I’m working on focusing more on what’s important. Its taking some time but I’m sure someone can relate.

🤗

It’s All In His Hands

Working from home (alone) has its perks but the most challenging time (aside from trying not to eat everything) is “idle time”. It’s so easy to dwell on the things you can’t do right now, or the thought that you aren’t doing enough, or that you’ve wasted time during this quarantine.

Well I’ve been fighting those moments as best as I can. I’ve started to try my best to focus on the things I HAVE done and continue to do each day while at home:

• Push-ups Daily

• Reading a devotional every morning

• Play monopoly or cards with my wife

• Went for a walk a few times

• Watched new movies and talked about them with friends on zoom

• Visited family from a distance

• FaceTimed friends I haven’t seen in a while

• Enjoy Series or movies with my wife

• Play Call Of Duty online with friends

• Play piano and listen to music

• Started sharing daily bible verses of encouragement through I AM UNYC

These are just some of the things I’ve done and continue to do while “stuck at home”. TRUST ME there’s been some rough days but I’m grateful for my wife who’s prayed with me and loved me even during those times.

I hope you are encouraged to know that you are not alone in this. Yea it’s difficult but you can get through this. Stay positive! Focus on one or two small things you can “control” and work at them regularly.

Let God handle the rest!

IT’S ALL IN HIS HANDS!
