💡Story behind the post💡
Bruh, I CRIED thinking about this post yesterday morning. Then CRIED again telling Maegen about the caption I was going to use. Then I was floored when she sent me the images.

You see, I never went to therapy until my son was 6 months old.

Trying to manage my emotions and thoughts while married was one thing, but becoming a Dad made me realize even more how important it was for me to get a better hold on my mental health in order to become a better person for myself, for my wife and now my son!

This design is powerful to me because I’ve seen the improvement made over the past two years. And I recognize the stigma around the topic that guys like me don’t really talk about.

The swerve/spiral part of the design was not just to be creative but also intentional as navigating one’s mental health is not always a straight line and takes a lot of time and intentionality to see progress.

It’s my hope that this design resonates with folks who are struggling with their mental health and need to seek help; with those who feel ashamed for getting the help; and to champion those who are advocating for their mental health and those around them.

I have struggled with the fear of failure or the fear of letting others down or not meeting expectations! I have placed unrealistic expectations on myself and it has crippled me from moving forward on ideas because I’m scared about how bad things could go.

I always wonder and look back like, “man if only I pushed through that fear and anxiety…if only I did it anyways regardless of what people would say or think.”

I think the common misconception is that you shouldn’t be scared but reality is that you will fear something! And it’s in those moments that you have to decide: will you let fear overcome you or will you overcome it?

My hope with this drop is that you are encouraged to face your fears and, with ACTION, you will overcome those fears.

Like the Bible says, the weapons may be formed but they won’t prosper!

The mission is to connect creatives to people/places where they can use their gifts to inspire others. Over the years I’ve carried that out in different ways. Whether it was helping put on events, getting an artist a gig or two, connecting like-minded individuals who would eventually collaborate on projects, help plan and talk through strategies for new ideas, etc. 

I’ve always been a connector of sorts. It’s what I’ve watched my family do in ministry and it’s what I’ve done in my professional career in Human Resources. I’ve always tried to see the best in others. I encourage them and nudge them to walk on the path of their purpose by helping them recognize their God given gifts.

I have learned a lot about myself and others. I have gained and lost friends. I have seen success and I have seen failure. 

But one thing I haven’t done is give up on the idea that when I believe in someone, I want to see them win and for God to bless them.

And that brings me to an exciting, first of many, collaboration with my friend and Artist Creative, Kelly Cruz of @kingandfolkco.

While she wears many hats like pastor’s kid, sister, aunt, military wife, mother of 3; this soft-spoken, Master’s Degree holding young woman is also a talented UNYC artist! I’m honored and grateful that she has allowed me to work on this with her.

#FML doesn’t have to mean what society has made it known to be. We want to change your perspective and consider a different approach.

In the Lord’s Prayer (Matt. 6:9-13), Jesus even taught us to ask for forgiveness because “he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9).
