DO IT AFRAID!

DO IT AFRAID

“It’s amazing how we can allow fear to stop us from doing something simply by worrying about what COULD happen when NOTHING has happened at all.”

I have struggled with the fear of failure or the fear of letting others down or not meeting expectations! I have placed unrealistic expectations on myself and it has crippled me from moving forward on ideas because I’m scared about how bad things could go.

I always wonder and look back like, “man if only I pushed through that fear and anxiety…if only I did it anyways regardless of what people would say or think.”

I think the common misconception is that you shouldn’t be scared but reality is that you will fear something! And it’s in those moments that you have to decide: will you let fear overcome you or will you overcome it?

My hope with this drop is that you are encouraged to face your fears and, with ACTION, you will overcome those fears.

Like the Bible says, the weapons may be formed but they won’t prosper!

Go!
DO IT!

🍼👶🏻🍼

For parents of newborns like my wife and I, the news of the supply chain shortages have been very concerning. Finding empty shelves in stores across the country where you’d normally find dozens of options for infant formula can make you question a lot of things.

Every parent just wants their kid to be healthy as they grow. And for some children who are only fed through formula, these last few weeks have been scary. Counting up every can of powder or bottle of ready made formula to see how much you have left and hoping that your child doesn’t want to cluster feed or increase regular feeding amount faster than expected.

And then there’s parents who rely on very specific formula due to their child’s health concerns or what their insurance will cover. Or the parents who financially can’t afford to travel far distances to find what they need or even order online.

Needless to say these are unprecedented times. But we must #FeedOurBabies. We want them to grow into strong young men and women who will make something of themselves one day.

And you know how they say it takes a village to raise a child? Well that’s where my wife and I find ourselves right now. Connecting with our village and finding out about others who are in need. In the past week, while we were able to find what we needed for our son, we were also able to help 5 other families find what they need and even deliver or ship it to them.

So we’ve decided that we want to continue these efforts under the #CajitasDeAmor initiative where we worked alongside my mother and El Santuario church to donate items to those in need after tragic events.

At this time we’d like to gather information on those who are still in need. If you or someone you know is still looking to find infant formula of any kind, please contact us via email at iamunyc@gmail.com. Let us know where you are, what formula options you are looking for and roughly how much you need.

For those who would like to help with these efforts please also email us so we can keep you informed and reach out as we confirm needs.

Most importantly we ask that you pray for us and all families affected during this time.

TEN YEARS OF UNYC: A reflection.

Ten years ago I was getting ready to give birth to an idea that I had been working on for months. I was inspired from my time serving in youth ministry, working on church events as well as watching my family organize a yearly Christian Hip Hop Festival in the Bronx called Rap Fest.

I was also inspired by other movements/events like BattleCry, God Belongs In My City, Urban Kingdom Youth Ministries, CREATIONFEST and I Am Second. I always gravitated towards these experiences that gathered people, young and old, providing a platform for folks to share their gifts and inspire those in attendance.

Because of the various relationships developed over the years, I began dreaming up ways to gather UNYC individuals that would be able to impact large audiences. Some of these dreams were realized when I joined the Rap Fest staff to help coordinate aspects of the event on their final leg of their 20 year run.

Working with Daniel Sanabria of GBIMC/UKYM I joined a group of leaders in the Bronx that organized the Revolution Lounge, an event that had local minstries share in various art forms and have special guest speakers. This lead to being a part of the GBIMC Tour staff and helping see the national and local Prayer tours produced and feature National Recording artists.

The desire to use my skills and organize events grew exponentially. I prayed about it and discussed some ideas with those closest to me and began to start planning out what would be my first UNYC event: CONNECT SHARE INSPIRE.

With the support of my Pastor and church at The Sanctuary Fellowship, UNYC held its first FREE event that included Hip Hop & Alternative bands, a local recording studio, a clothing brand, a Basketball organization and a special video production with the help of my brothers at APFilms that featured Andy Mineo, Rich Perez & JCruzProject.

The success for me initially was thinking “Wow, this place is at standing room only!” But the real satisfaction of a well done event has been learning about the folks that were inspired by the night and went on to create some wonderful things: Events like TheOlogyBx that has provided a space for creative believers to share their heart through various forms of music. Working alongside other creatives like Suleky Roman who curated some very special moments for artists in NYC and across the country.

Now today on March 3rd 2022 I find myself with new ideas, new desires, new passions but the same Heart. I pray that with everything I do, others can be encouraged and inspired to use their UNYC gifts.

These days it will look a little different maybe for UNYC.

  • We will continue to support The Ology and its monthly events.

  • We will be creating more UNYC apparel and look to collaborate with other creatives.

  • We will work on creating encouraging and inspiring content for our socials.

  • We will look to highlight other creatives that we believe in and support through our socials.

ALSOOO, I have ventured into business ownership and will help run a screen printing company in NYC. So I am excited to help creatives see their visions come to life on apparel and see their businesses thrive.

And to top all of this, the most special thing happening 10 years later is that my wife and I are expecting our first child this Spring. What a joy to see that new life is on the way and an opportunity for us to raise a child of God and help them grow and develop their UNYC creative abilities.

Man I would not have guessed that 10 years later, I would be preparing to watch my wife give birth to out child and for a new business endeavor to come to life.

God is good!

Don’t give up on your dreams. Seek God in all you do. Be patient and give yourself some grace.

It’s all in Gods hands!!

Struggling to follow through…

…..

There are countless ideas, tasks, plans and projects that I never finished/completed/followed through with.

😣

Haven’t been posting as often lately…well mainly because I haven’t made it a priority the way it was and the thought of becoming a dad and being available to my wife has consumed me (positively).

Tbh there are moments of anxiety and worry about what I need to do to prepare the home or somewhat prepare myself (I know I know…can’t fully prepare) to be a dad.

There are other times where I’m coming to terms with the fact that some ideas and plans I was looking to make won’t happen now the way I thought because of this life changing responsibility I will have as a father. (Priorities change)

Believe me I’m excited about becoming a dad. But I have had to really think about how I do things and the fact that I haven’t finished so many things I started scares me sometimes.

I know it’s not possible to get through everything but I’m really trying to work on finding ways to discipline myself more in different areas of my life.

I don’t have this figured out and it will take time. I just hope that if you’re reading this and find yourself feeling the same way, then YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

🙏🏼

What are some ways you discipline yourself to follow through with tasks/projects/plans?

How do you deal with knowing you can’t complete something?

Share thoughts in the comments to help someone else maybe.
